Meet Sarah Baar

“I contain multitudes.”

Sarah, one of our account managers, got a little philosophical when we chatted about what to include in the very blog you’re reading now. (Which is pretty easy to do when you’re a Whitman fan.)

Nonetheless, the description fits. As has become clear to all of us since she joined CP Solutions in September 2017, Sarah is a person with a very wide range of interests and skills.

Because in addition to being a wonderful account manager and marketing strategist, Sarah also happens to have run a marathon (and is currently training for another). Oh, and she’s a prolific (albeit unpublished) novelist. And she’s certainly the only yogi at CP Solutions able to pull off a flawless crow pose, which she’s demonstrated at least once while leading morning stretches.

(I’m not sure I can even get my knees to touch my elbows, let alone stand on them.)

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Let’s rewind the clock for a little background.

For Sarah, Holland, Michigan has always been home. That wasn’t necessarily the plan, as it turns out—in her younger years, she imagined she’d go somewhere far away for college, or at the very least move away after graduation.

Ideally, someplace a little warmer: Living through 30-something Michigan winters (who’s counting?) have soured her a bit on the cold weather. Although, relaxing on the Lake Michigan beach in summer makes it all worth it.

But moving far away wasn’t meant to be. Sarah stayed in town for her education and graduated magna cum laude from Hope College. She continued to live and work in the area, taking jobs in publishing and higher education before finding her way to CP Solutions.

Along the way, she married her husband Kent and adopted Bear, who is, in fact and despite the name, a dog. Bear Baar (great name!) comes along with Sarah to the office occasionally, and is widely considered to be the chillest, if not the outright illest, of our office dogs by a noticeable margin.

Of course, don’t mistake her decision to stay close to home for a lack of adventure.

Sarah’s hiked the Grand Canyon and SCUBA dove with sharks. Her international excursions have brought her to France and South Africa. Travel is definitely one of her passions.

Another passion? The written word. Sarah loves to read—at home, on the beach, on the road, wherever. Ask her for recommendations sometime, and you might end up with a reading list a mile and a half long. In 2017, she actually started keeping tracks of how many books she was reading and ended the year with 95.

That’s about two books per week. Assuming she wasn’t cheating and just padding her totals with a bunch of Dick and Jane readers (a pretty safe bet), that’s a whole lot of words per day, scientifically speaking.

But Sarah doesn’t just consume books—she also writes them. As a matter of fact, she has written eight (yes, eight) novels! None are as yet published, nor are there any plans to do so, but who knows—one day you might see her smiling face on the inside cover of a book jacket near you.

Although she’s not technically a member of the CP Solutions writing team, she easily could be (and has been known to pitch in with a blog or two on occasion).

All that being said, when you get down to it, Sarah’s greatest passion (just narrowly edging out ice cream) is people—meeting and getting to know them, spending time with them, playing games and telling stories. Her husband, her friends, and her family are what really mean the world to her. Trust us: making natural connections with others and building relationships (personal, professional, and otherwise) are definitely on Sarah’s list of top specialties.

It’s why she loves coming to work every day, why we love having her around, and big reason why she’s so good at what she does here at CP Solutions.
